Are We a Good Fit?
Why are your services expensive?
Great question! I value the work and time that it takes to help clients move toward what matters most. It is my mission. To offer such an effective, quality service, and to continue being a leading expert in the sports psychology field, I have dedicated the last 18 years, through sound education, training, and experiences, to building a knowledge base and expertise required to provide a beneficial service. So yes, I do charge more than some.

Do you accept insurance?
No. As my specialty evolved, working with elite athletes, I realized accepting insurance would not make sense for the work I do and the quality of service I provide. When insurance companies pay for treatment, it means that their employees will audit treatment plans and read what I have in my session notes. Insurance employees are trained to save their company from fraud or overuse of an insurance plan. As a result, the insurance company may deny additional sessions because you, the client, are not progressing fast enough, or the work does not qualify as medically necessary. Some insurance companies do not reimburse or approve 60-minute sessions. YOU have the right to confidentiality of your medical records. YOU also have the right to freely progress through your treatment at a pace you deem comfortable. This is different for each client.

Furthermore, insurance companies require a diagnosis to establish a necessity for services and to pay therapists. Even so, some companies do not consider certain diagnoses as debilitating enough, meaning I would have to label you with a severe diagnosis that they will reimburse, even though it does not reflect your situation. That would be insurance fraud to do so. This is an integrity line I will not cross. Labeling you a diagnosis that is not proper could have potential negative consequences for YOU in the future, and me.

Do you have a license to provide treatment for mental health issues?
Yes! I am a licensed and board certified counselor through the State of Missouri.
Are you certified in sports psychology?
Yes! I am a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association for Applied Sports Psychology.

How many sessions will I need?
This is difficult to answer because each challenge and person is different. There is no one-size-fits-all plan. I use a brief therapy plan focused on moving you forward through committed action in service of what matters most, rather than analyze all the details of your past. We do take time to look into your past as reference, but only how it relates to what is functionally working now.

How are you different than other sports psychology professionals?
Many professionals take an outcome approach to therapy or sports performance consulting meaning they promote interventions that only focus on achieving outcomes. In theory this looks like a sound approach; however, practically, these approaches (e.g. positive self-talk, relaxation training, visualization and imagery) are not grounded scientifically, and/or empirically supported as effective performance enhancement interventions. These approaches are equivalent at best, meaning they may or may not improve your performance.
My approach? I take a practical, functional approach, supported through evidenced-based research, that focuses on helping you take action on what works to get you where you want to go in the least amount of time. It is about using your freedom, and the right to be self-determined to choose your direction, increasingly moving you toward your chosen direction by way of committed actions, despite the presence of negative things going on inside you.

Why is the leaping man in your logo not centered?
Well I do get asked this from time to time, so I thought I would answer it. If you look at the logo, you will notice that the athlete is leaping from the word "COMMIT" to the word "ACTION" and that he is more committed to the word ACTION, hence the offset. His action and the offset symbolizes the COMMIT-TO-ACTION LLC philosophy and mission.
